Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been using Vagifem and I have noticed over the past month an extreme hair loss. My hair is falling out in abundance worse than a shedding dog. I am thinking that it is the cause of the vagifem? If it is can I use a substitute that would not cause hair loss?
Vagifem contains estradiol, a form of estrogen which is female natural sex hormone is used in many processes in the body. Vagifem belongs to the group of medications known as hormone replacement therapy that is used to relieve menopausal symptoms like vaginal dryness, irritation, burning etc., after menopause.
It may cause hair loss and thinning hair. But this side effect is temporary and usually goes away over time as the body adjusts to this medication. If side effects persist then inform your doctor. But, despite having side effect, you should not stop using this medication without consulting your doctor first.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
