Does Thick, Yellowish Red Mucus Indicate Sinus Infection?

I have had sinus drainage and mucous production for at least 6 weeks. The mucous is thick, yellow, and now red. I have spoken to my doctor and nothing has changed. I am pretty certain I have a sinus infection. I take Zyrtec daily and have been using Flonase almost daily but nothing is working, help!

Hello,

You have used decongested and anti-inflammatory medication. But you have not used antibiotic until now. You should be given an antibiotic course for your sinusitis infection. I suggest you investigate with paranasal sinus X-ray for further work up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
