Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My question is my doctor told me that I have a lesion on my throid and wants to remove it. Am I going to gain weigh? They are going to remove the right side. All I hear is if you have your throid removed you have to take medication and you will put on the weight. Is this true
Weight gain can occur if the level of thyroid hormones is low.
If they remove an aspect of the thyroid gland, they would assess your levels of thyroid hormones and give you medication if the level is low. Once the level of hormone is maintained by regular use of medication, you would not gain weight.
I hope this helps
