The total thyroidectomies mean the excision of thyroid gland but also the
parathyroid gland that are behind the thyroid gland.
Thyroid gland produce thyroid hormone T4(thyroxine) and T3(
triiodothyronine) that are important for the metabolic rate and other function of your body, with the excision of it you don’t made the production of this hormones that mean that you have
hypothyroidism that cause tiredness, constipation, high blood lipid, weight gain etc for these reason you should take synthetic thyroid hormones e.g. Levothyroxine and monitor the dosage of this pill with the TSH blood level during all the time after the removal of thyroid gland.
Parathyroid gland release PTH (
parathyroid hormone), it regulate the amount of calcium in the blood. The removal of parathyroid gland cause hypocalcaemia, hypocalcemia signs are numbness or tingling in the fingertips, toes, or lips. To treat this signs you need
