Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been dealing with an inflamed throat and tonsils since the beginning of summer last year, I had tonsilitis, then a theist infection right after. My right tonsil is inflamed and won t go down, while my left is normal size. I keep pulling out tonsil stones, some huge and bloody and some small. I always get reacurrent sore throats with my tonsils becoming inflamed. Do I need tonsillectomy ?
Hello, Thanks for the query. Tonsil stones do occur in some people. They are a collection of bacteria, dead WBC and calcium deposits together. These are lodged in the crypts of tonsil. In some people they do not cause any symptoms. Preventing the formation of tonsil stones is as simple as good dental hygiene. Plus brushing teeth and tongue after meals, at bedtime and first thing in the morning. Flossing teeth daily can also help by cleaning out bacteria also suggested gargling daily suing commercial gargles, or a homemade solution of hydrogen peroxide and water. It is better to avoid using a mouthwash that contains alcohol. If stones still keep occurring repeatedly then tonsillectomy can be considered. Your ENT specialist is the best person to decide on that. Thanks.
