Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Treatment For An Aortic Aneurysm Include A Bypass Surgery?
I am 71 yr old female with health issues including chronic pain syndrome low back, degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia, chronic arthritis. I have had 3 back surgeries, both hips replaced and neck surgery. I am in constant pain. I have an ascending aortic aneurism thorasic which is very large. I decided not to have surgery because I was told it would require bypass surgery and I don t think my health is up to it. BUT recently I saw on TV that a new procedure is available that would not require bypass surgery. Would this benefit me? Is this procedure done here in Utah?
Surgery always depends on the size of aneurysms and the age of the patient and associated problems etcetera. Usually, more than 5 cm aneurysms may be taken for surgery. If the opening of carotid arteries involve then need for bypass surgery also. Usually, the grafting method or endovascular repair method may uses. Still, have a doubt please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
