Does Usage Of Synalar Otic Cause Sudden Hearing Loss?

Hi! In recent external otitis incident I had to use Synalar Otic for about 10days... In the last day, I woke up in the middle of the night with a strong intense noise in my ear like a hiss which kept about 30 minutes... I panicked! I went to my doctor next day and he figured out (mesured) that I have a sudden hearing loss from my ear (I didn t understand it by myself). Now he prescribed me cortisone in order to fix my ear nerve... Is it possible all these happened by Synalar Otic? Thank you!!

Hello,

Synalar Otic contains a steroid and normally should not cause the hearing loss. Probably the same reason why you used Synalar Otic is the cause of the hearing loss as well. You may be having a viral infection which caused your hearing loss and other symptoms that caused you to use Synalar.

You will need to follow the instructions of the doctor and take the medications he is prescribing as recommended and do regular follow-ups on your hearing.
