Hi, Based on the history you have shared, both of these can be entirely different infections caused by two different bacteria but this could have been confirmed on cultures both for sinusitis like of nasal discharge, throat swab, or sinus discharge etc and for wound infection local cultures alongside blood cultures would have been appropriate. Usually, for gram-positive bacteria, the antibiotics you took would have had better coverage and if both involved the same group of bacteria one antibiotic would have been sufficient but since we don t have exact cultures it s difficult to predict and it s mostly based on possibilities. Rarely coughing can lead to spread of some bacteria from the upper respiratory tract and may spread on the exposed wound but that s a rare incidence. Hope I have answered your query.
