Does Vision Impairment In The Right Eye Need Immediate Medical Attention?

My right eye is very dark when I try to look out; unable to see anything. No previous injury. At present eye feels like its burning on the outer corner. If I place my hand over my left eye then am unable to see anything out of my right eye. Should I seek medical care for this or wait to see if this gets better? I m currently away from my home state of Alaska & am in Iowa visiting family. I m worried & am in my late 50s.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I suggest you to go to doctor. Sudden loss of peripheral vision may indicate a detached retina, which is a medical emergency that must be treated as soon as possible to avoid permanent vision loss.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
