Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have stage one breast cancer, have had lumpectomy and radiation. I also have a low Vit D level and have read reports that supports the idea that low Vit D is linked to breast cancer. I also read that you need Vit K2 to help the Vitamin D supplement do it's job. Is this true? I don't know much about Vitamin K2.
Hi, Thanks for contacting Healthcaremagic. I have gone through your query.
There are some recent studies shows a relationship between breast cancer and vitamin D deficiency. But a direct correlation could not be established and many research works are in progress. Most of the studies emphasise on breast cancer survival and vitamin D status.Patients with low vitD have lesser survival rate and shows relatively bad prognosis. And most recent studies shows a protective effect of vitD on breast cancer.Women with vitD rich diet or women with more exposure to sunlight have less chance of developing breast cancer. But keep in mind that most important risk factor for developing breast cancer is hereditary factors that means genetics plays a much much important role than vitaminD . Vitamin K2 is required for optimal function of vitD in bone mineralisation. There is no proven effects of vitK2 on pathogenesis of breast cancer. If you take vitD for osteoporosis you have good vitamin K level but not in case of breast cancer. Based on your clinical history I suggest you to take vitD suppliments. Consult a nutritionist for detailed explanation.
Hope this information helps. Wishing you good health Regards Dr Shinas Hussain.
