Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have heard that certain medications can cause gardnerella. I have been having recurrent gardnerella infections for a several months now and have also started a new medication around the time the problem began. The medication is vyvanse. Is this one of the medications known to be linked to gardnerella infections?
Vyvanse is lisdexamphetamine which helps in attention deficit hyperactive disorder to improve the attention, concentration and fidgeting. Known side effects of the drug are nausea, vomiting, constipation, nervousness, dizziness, sweating, etc.
Gardnerella is the known bacterial species present in the genital tract which provokes infection when there is outgrowth of the bacteria more than the normal amount. Immuno-compromised state also provoke the infection. Antibiotics are prescribed for such infections which cure the symptoms. There is no proven relation to gardnerella infection to Vyvanse medication. Consult the gynecologist for the further evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
