Does Withdrawal From Anastrozole Cause Adverse Side Effects?

I just stopped taking anastrozole 1 mg after 4 years . I took it after a mastectomy because of breast cancer. no chemo, no radiation. Several months ago, I noticed a dent at the top of my skull. I think it has occurred because of bone loss from the arimedex. After three years I fell and broke both arms -Monteggia break. I tried to continue the medicine because other than the breaks, I thought I was tolerating it well because of no bone, joint or muscle pains, etc.

Hello,

Anastrozole is used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It helps in lowering the estrogen hormone level and thereby it shrinks the tumor and prevents its growth.

Thus, this medicine is necessary for you to take to prevent recurrence of the breast cancer. You are informing that you are tolerating well. In such case, I would advise you not to stop taking it without consulting your treating doctor. Even though the medicine is not associated with any withdrawal symptoms after stopping its intake, I am more concerned regarding the recurrence of breast cancer.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Let me know if you have follow up questions.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
