Does Withdrawal From Birth Control Pill Cause Heavier And Irregular Periods?
Hi, I was taking the pill for about a year and stopped a few months ago. I have noticed that my period the past three months has been much heavier, longer, irregular and I feel a constant cramp on the rightside. Should I be concerned or is this normal after stopping the pill. I am forty years old just to add that to the equation. I was taking microgestin.
After you stop birth control pill cause heavier and irregular period is normal during a first few months. You may experience abdominal cramping, weight gain, mood swings etc. Because birth control pill contain synthetic hormone similar to the hormones that a women's body produces naturally. After using birth control for a long time, which can affect the lining of the uterus and cause bleeding.
If you continue to have a heavy bleeding long time you need to see your doctor to make an evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Heang Chan Raksmey, General and Family Physician
