Does Withdrawal Of Wellburtin Cause Any Side Effects?

I've been on Wellbutrin (300 mg), for almost 2 years and want to come off of it. Wellbutrin was added to my celexa medication for depression (prescribed by a psychiatrist) when I relapsed 2 years when my husband suffered real bad depression. I've been on Celexa for many years and will stay on that for now. What are the side affects of coming off Wellbutrin. My Dr. has me on 150mg for 3 months and gradually wean off it.

I can understand your concern. Wellbutrin is Bupropion and the drug is atypical antidepressant agent. Abrupt stoppage of drug after regular prolonged intake results in withdrawal symptoms in form of restlessness, anxiety, tremors, dizziness, sedation, mood swings, depressive symptoms etc. But if the doses of drug are reduced gradually under proper guidance of a doctor then there are no side effects of coming off Wellbutrin.

Doses should be reduced by 20-25% every 2-4 weeks and should be stopped completely at about 8-10 weeks. The dose tapering in this manner prevent any withdrawal symptoms. Please consult your doctor for prescription and dont be stressed due to the drug.
