Xylatol, sorbitol, and similar compounds used as sweeteners -- any effect on the eye, e.g. cataracts, macular degeneration ?



Ditto aspartame (sp? sweetener ? I've heard that the breakdown products are methyl alcohol, a specific poison to the optic nerve, and formaldehhyde, definitely toxic

There are many reports of different side effect but there is no credible evi dence or dataavailable for it. there is no report on break down to methyle alcohol or frmal dehyde report.
