Hello. Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
Your husband's
semen analysis is probably normal. As you've discovered, there are a number of parameters used to evaluate semen quality, and interpretation can get a bit difficult, particularly since not all labs use the same nomenclature to report their results.
The most important parameters in a semen analysis are:
Volume (normal: 2-5 ml)
Liquefaction time (normal: 20 to 30 minutes)
Sperm count (normal: 20 million/ml or more)
Sperm form, or morphology (normal: at least 30% have normal shape)
Sperm viability/motility (normal: more than 50% show forward movement after one hour)
Semen pH (normal 7.1-8.0 [alkaline])
WBCs (normal: less than 1 million/ml)
The only parameter in your husband's analysis that might be borderline is
sperm motility. There is some subjectivity in measuring this particular parameter and (again) a lot of inter-laboratory variability. In addition, any delay in analyzing a specimen can have a significant effect on sperm motility. Your doctor, who is more familiar with results produced by this laboratory, can give you a more accurate interpretation of these results.
I hope that helps!
