Done Urine Routine And Culture Tests. What Do The Results Indicate?

i got my mother's urine routine and culture tests got done. Culture report says ' no growth' whereas, routine report says, pus cells - 2-3/HPF and Epithelial Cells - 2-3 /HPF, SP.GR - 1.01 and reaction - 6.0, RBC - 4-6 / HPF and Bacterial +

What do these indicate? Could you please give some idea as how serious is the issue? Please

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,

You must understand we need to correlate result of every investigation clinically.
Urine analysis report shows WBC (Pus Cells) 2-3/HPF and RBC (Red blood cells) commonly such results are due to Urinary tract infection.

Some time partially treated Urinary tract infection as urine culture showed no bacterial growth.

If your mother has symptoms like burning in micturition, frequency of urination and fever then she requires treatment with urinary specific antibiotics and ask her to take plenty of fluids to keep urinary system flushed.

This should not be any serious issue; other causes of blood (RBCs) in urine could be any Kidney stone, if urine sample is taken around her period dates (Menstrual cycle).

Please consult your Physician and take proper treatment and if necessary a Ultrasonography will be very useful in knowing any predisposing factor or cause.

Hope this helps
Take care.
Good Luck.

want to know why the tests were ordered.
the urine reports do not indicate any infection as evident by 2-3 pus cells and sterile culture. however 4-6 RBCs indicate microscopic hematuria i.e. minimal blood cells in urine. if there is no local injury in the area then this requires furthe evaluation. consult your urologist
