Done With FBS And PPBS.Hba1c Is High.Blood Tests Done In Different Labs. What Does The Finding Mean?
The FBS and 2 hour PPBS done on three different days are normal. However, HbA1C is high. These are repeated every month for three months. FBS is about 120mg., 2h PPBS is about 160mg. and HbA1C is about 8.5%. Blood tests are done in different labs also. Random B.S. done at about 4 pm and at supper time are also normal. Why is HbA1C is not corrolating with blood sugars?
FBS, PPBS and RBS are values of blood sugar at the point of withdrawal of blood for testing.
But HbA1c represents the blood sugar for a period of 3 to 4 weeks.
If your Blood sugars are normal than you should exclude conditions that give false positivity.
These are some conditions
Iron, vitamin B12 deficiencies, decreased erythropoiesis, alcoholism, chronic renal failure, large dose of aspirin.
The fasting and 2 hr post meal blood sugar give an indication about the level of blood sugar on that particular day.
The HbA1c provides information on what would have occurred over the past 3 months. You may want to consider checking all of your post meal readings to see if one of them is elevated. This means checking post breakfast , post lunch and post supper.
If the HbA1c is truly increased (you may want to repeat it to make sure) ,it means that at some point during the day, that you have not found as yet, your blood sugars are running very high.
There is a test where a person can monitor the blood sugars for 3 days to determine the general pattern. It is called continuous glucose monitoring. You can consider speaking to your doctor to determine if this is an option because you and your doctor need to find where the high sugars are occurring.
Hi, Thanks for using healthcare magic. HBA1C reflects the average blood sugar level of last three months. So it may vary with fasting or post lunch sugar level. Please note that there may be minor instrumental variability so it is advisable to do it in same laboratory.
I hope I have addressed your concern. Thanks.
