Greeting:
My 6-year old daughter did a PPD test. the nurse read the result has positive. However, though not of medical background, I read that the ppd test result should not be read has positive when just reddish, but when inflamed and hard. However, my daughter's was flat and little reddish. There was a subsequent test order for chest x-ray, which showed no signs of TB.
My kid's pediatrician prescribed 300 mg Rifampin as preventive treatment for six months, stating there might be some bacteria in the body that could cause T.B.
I have mix feeling about administering this drug to daughter, for fear that nothing is wrong with her and the ppd was read wrong and chest x-rays okay. and also because we are from west Africa and she might have had probable exposure and might have taken a preventive vaccine at birth.
Should I ask for further test, or wait for a year and do another chest x-ray to determine?
