Dopa Responsive Dystonia, Not Able To Control Movement. Advice?

Hi I Chandresh Dave from Gujarat, India. My son (14 year) is a dopa responsive dystonia patient. Presently, he is given l-dopa 60 ml*5 times a day. However, these also does not fulfil his dopamine requirement and not be able to control movement. May I request you to please advise. Chandresh Dave YYYY@YYYY

Thank you for your query.

L-dopa has a very short half life meaning that the drug is metabolized very fast. It is for this reason that the drug is given very frequently, 5 times in your son's case. At the same time the dose cannot be increased depending on the movements. Hence, a balance has to be struck. With this information it shall be better for you to discuss with the treating doctor and adjust the dose and frequency accordingly.
