Second trimester scan and boold test results (Down' Syndrome test results) Hi, My wife is in second trimester now (24th Week). Her first trimester NT scan shown NT thickess around 1.2mm and First trimester Down syndrome shown low risk. Her second trimester ultrasound (anomaly scan) is done at 21 weeks 6days, and found that Nuchal Fold thickness is 5mm. Dr has asked for down s cyldrome bolld test. The Bolld test is done at 22 weeks and Trisomy 21 test results shown risk og 1:133. After this results Dr has told that it may be because test are done bit late. It should be done around 16-18 week. So the presen results will be due to lower sensitivity. Also he suggested that if we want we can go for Amniocentesis . Decision is our and we have to take it. As per him first trimester results are more important and as those are normal so we can neglech the second trimester results and proceed. But he said we can always go for amniocentesis and confirm if we want. Please guide us? WE are confused, afraid and we want opinion
You are in the right line of treatment but i dont agree with that doctor that only first trimester results are confirmatory. And also please go for the amniocentesis as it is confirmatory for Downs but it does have its own risk which has to be discussed in detail with your doctor
