Dry Cough, Sinus Pressure. Prescribed Levaquin And Symbicort. Recommendations?
Constant dry hacking cough with sinus pressure for 2 weeks. No discharge or fever . My doctor x rayed and said the sinus cavity was blocked and prescribed levaquin and symbicort. I have been drinking lots of fluid and using saline drops and steam inhalation. What are your recommendations? It is also hard eating without feeling the need to cough.
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Since you are a patient of dry hacking cough ,sinus pressure . In my opinion these symptoms mentioned by you are due to allergic asthmatic bronchitis . Reason of this type of cough may be any sort of allergy such as due to , mite, dust, fumes, smoking ( smokes), hay, pollen , mold , sudden rise & fall of temperature. All these are predisposing factor of dry cough. Cough is due to bronchoconstriction . In such type of condition I like to prescribe antihistamine + bronchodilator . This is a sufficient treatment . In my opinion consult a physician and get 2nd opinion. If infection added ( if mucus present ) then I prescribe antibiotics. Use of corticosteroid is only for emergency. Good luck. Dr. HET
