Dry Cough, Sore Throat, Sinus Pain, Loss Of Sleep, Nausea. Due To Viral Infection?

I ve been feeling rough for the last few days. I thought I was just getting a cold because I have a dry cough at night, a sore throat and sinus pain when I wake up. I ve not slept very well either, lots of tossing and turning during the night. Today, however, after a better night s sleep, I feel dreadful. I have a sore throat, but I also feel a bit dizzy and light-headed, and I feel queasy. Could it be some kind of viral infection? I m working full time, and I don t know whether I should be seeing a GP or just gritting my teeth and waiting it out!

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described symptoms, you are most likely suffering from acute viral upper respiratory tract infection with sinus involvement and possibility of secondary bacterial infection.
Presence of sore throat, cough with sinus pain suggests the diagnosis.
Sinus are empty space in scalp bones and predisposes for infections.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist and should go for thorough check up.
You should take complete antibiotic course (to prevent secondary bacterial infection), combination of decongestants and anti allergic, mucolytics and anti-inflammatory.
Avoid cold drinks, oily foods, yogurt.
Perform gargles three times in day; a glass of lukewarm water along with a pinch of salt.
You should take proper bed rest.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
