Due To Bone Fusion Surgery On Neck Experiencing Difficulty To Swallow

I have had 2 bone fusion surgeries on my neck, and have titanium plate and screws, my esophagus has become crooked at the site of the first screw, its very difficult to swallow, I find myself turning my head to one side ( my strong side) in order to swallow without choking. They gave me exercises to do, but those have not helped at all. Is there a way it can be fixed with surgery maybe?

Hello!

Thank you for trusting HCM!

Because of the close anatomical relationship of cervical spine with the pharynx and cervical part of esophagus, the consequences of the degenerative changes in the cervical discs and facet joints and chronic MS dysfunction of the cervical spine facet joints, such as the changes in the physiological curvature of the cervical spine, changes in elasticity and contractility in the neck muscles and decreased mobility of the cervical spine, adversely affect the dimensions of the pharynx and cervical part of esophagus, that is, swallowing capacity which can result in dysphagia.

The most important therapeutic options in patients with CD are: medicamentous therapy, physical therapy, manual therapy, kinesiotherapy and surgical treatment.

Please consult your doctor. He will advice on the appropriate treatment for you.

Take care
