Dull Aching, Throbbing And Metallic Taste In Mouth. Increased Pain After Food Intake. History Of Teeth Infections, Swelling , Gingivitis And Amalgam Fillings. Mercury Poisoning?

I have had teeth infections & swelling in past & have gingivitus. But recently I began experiencing something different - a dull aching, throbbing & metallic taste on left side (top and bottom teeth). The teeth and gums are not swollen or sensitive to touch. Pain is increased after eating & drinking (coffee especially, it seems) - not necessarily hot or cold food/drink. I have amalgam fillings and am wondering about mercury poisoning.

NOT SURELY MERCURY POISONING,,but on the basis of provisional diagnosis it may be irreversible pulpities in that filled tooth,,one iopar is required and have to observe whether pulp is involved or not.definitely pulp has to involved in this case and it has to told to the patient for further treatment to eliminate unnecessary fear of him/her.

Bad taste in coming in your mouth while chewing something is due to pus discharge from the tooth which is infected and needs Root Canal treatment. It can also be because of food impaction which gets fermented and gives bad taste as written by you. You should not wait for long as infected tooth in the mouth is focus of infection and anytime it can very painful with swelling. So schedule an appointment with your dentist and get the root canal treatment done asap

Hello there ,

Thanks for writing your query,

Pain and sensitivity in teeth and gums indicates periodontal infection which involves the gingiva , teeth and attachment appratus of the teeth .

Dental pain in an already filled tooth indicates the presence of infection below the filling .

Tooth ache indicates bacterial decay or infection in the tooth that involves the exposed tooth nerve tissues .

such infected tooth needs to be treated by a root canal procedure so please consider getting the treatment done by consulting a dentist.

you may need an OPG radiographic examination done for your teeth to confirm the spread of infection or to rule out the exact cause of the pain.

Periodontal infection needs to be treated by thorough professional deep scaling of gums and root planing of the teeth to remove all the irritants ,this will help in resolving the symptoms followed by a course of antibiotic and analgesics.

i would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine

i hope this helps ,

take care.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

According to your clinical symptoms i suspect that you have developed severe infection in the mouth this ca be due to poor oral hygiene, plague and calculus deposition, systemic diseases like diabetes, hormonal imbalance.

I would suggest you to visit the Dentist and get the thorough checkup done take an OPG radiograph.
Go for symptomatic treatment of complete mouth scaling and polishing.
There cannot be a mercury poisoning because of dental filling it occurs when you engulf large amount of mercury accidently.

Use a desensitizing toothpaste along with a soft bristle toothbrush.
Use antiseptic mouthwash gargles.
Also get your blood sugar level analysed.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.

Hope this helps out.

Regards..

This could be due marginal breakage of your amalgam filling, which may lead to sensitivity and mild throbbing pain, you may need to take x-ray of the particular tooth and check for any pulpal roof damage, which may occurs in long standing amalgam filling. the treatment could be either new filling or needs root canal treatment. the history also shows gingivitis so oral prophylaxis with mouth wash will help u.
