Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
ECG Shows Abdnormal Left Ventricular Diastolic Function, Impaired LV Relaxation. LVEDP 10mm/Hg. What Does It Mean?
My husband recently had a echocardiogram and a cardiac cath. echo showed abnormal left ventricular diastolic function and abnormal left ventricular diatolic filling, consistent with impaired LV relaxation. cath showed normal left ventricular wall motion and systolic function with an estimated ejection fraction of 35%. aortic pressure 140/80. LV pressure was 140/10; LVEDP 10mm/Hg. what does the LVEDP rate mean? He will probably have an ICD inserted in a few weeks. He is on coreg 12.5 BID starting today. He was on coreg 6.25mg BID. I know the ICD will not affect his ejection fraction. Is it safe to put the ICD off for awhile as long as we have an AED? Or are we just prolonging the inevitable? Thanks so much
Dear ma'm
thanks for seeking an opinion from HCM.com
i would like to point out certain in-discrepancies in your question first. if ejection fraction(EF) is 35% why it has been mentioned that wall motion and EF are normal?
LVEDP is left ventricular end diastolic pressure which is the pressure being exerted on wall of left ventricle (main heart chamber) by the blood during diastole (relaxation phase). it is a measure of flexibility or distensibility or diastolic function of heart and any increase in this will result in shortness of breath on exertion and other consequences. there are many causes for diastolic dysfunction like high blood pressure, aortic valve obstruction, anginal heart disease, obesity etc.
why an ICD is being implanted is not clear from the information you have provided. either his EF is not normal and it is indeed 35% or there is some other indication. any way, once implanted for a valid indication, it is not safe to put off ICD except for specific indications and not at all for the reason that AED is available.
you may chose to write again , as certain things are not clear from your question.
sincerely
