Ears Cleaned With Q-tips, Tenderness, Dizziness, Painful Jaw, Popping Sensation. On Aspirin. Will I Be Okay?

I've cleaned my ears with q-tips for years and no problems. Recently I am not able to get q-tip in very far. It seems the hole in both ears is closing up as if the bone has moved somehow? Now I can only get a q-tip in half as far only if it is wet. Also the closing in area is tender and it appears to be the bone where the tender is coming from. Yesterday I put wet q-tip in ear and was still able to slip it thru the very narrow opening but when q-tip can out it had fresh blood on it. Stuck q-tip back in and more blood. Also the bone along the narrow opening was painful and afterwards hurt up on the jaw and up the side of my head and I felt dizzy a short while. Had same experience with other ear except no blood. I've also been hearing popping and crackling sound out of ear that had blood on q-tip and the other ear is constantly making a noise as if I've just come from a very loud concert. These sounds in my ears have been going on for several months now. I'm 55yrs, female, in good health and talking no medications not even asprin. Please help.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Firstly, do not use anything to clean your ears! Ears have a self cleaning mechanism and any interference with this can result in blocked ears due to the disruption of the normal cleaning cycle.

Secondly, you seem to have injured the skin in the external ear by trying to clean; this could have resulted in a condition called otitis externa which is essentially infection in the external ear and this causes pain.

Thirdly, you need to meet an ENT specialist as your ears need to be thoroughly examined and treated accordingly.

Sreenivasan
