Edema. Severe Edema From Amlodipine, Gout From Indapamide, Potassium Supplement, Low Bp, Dizziness From Diovan, Exforge. Recommendations?

Can you recommend a pressure medication that won't likely cause severe edema. My Dad was on amlodipine but had severe edema for which he was prescribed indapamide and potassium supplement. After only a week, he had severe gout confirmed by lab work (elevated uric acid). Anytime he has taken a diuretic, he has severe gout. He had also tried Diovan and Exforge but they caused instances of very low blood pressure and dizziness.

Hi

welcome to healthcare magic,

i am expecting your dad's age is above 50 yrs.

The best choice for the age group is calcium channel blocker and diuretic but due to
the side effects experienced by him,we should another drug.

The antihypertensive i would suggest is ACE inhibitors ,a group of drugs....the

generic names being ramipril ,enalapril, perindopril.

FOR EG: Enalapril can be started at low doses like 2.5 mg twice a day and

gradually can be gradually increased to 10 mg twice daily under supervision.

The common side effects of ACE INHIBITORS are cough, increased potassium

levels,giddiness,hypotension.

kindly observe for first dose hypotension on starting ACE inhibitors.

Hope u find this helpful
