Effect Of Plaquenil Taken For Lichen Planus On Eye Sight?
I have been diagnosed with Lichen Planus and am going to be prescrbed Plaquenil after blood work and eye exam. I am concerned about it's possible effiect on eyesite and wonder if just using a steroid paste at times when the Lichen Planus flares up would be the better, less intrusive way to go - what do you think?
Plaquenilretinopathy is dose dependent and the key in avoiding the risk for this is the proper calculation of dose which is based on ideal body weigh (not actual body weight). Obviously the risk is less if you don't use the medicine and stick to steroid creams but if your dermatologist or rheumatologist says that is not enough to control your symptoms, Plaquenil in general is pretty safe...plus you might get the added benifit of malaria prophylaxis!
