Every Bite Of Food Got Stuck In Throat, Burning And Painful. Happens While Drinking Also. Any Relation ?

Today while eating lunch, every bite of food I took felt like it was stuck in my throat . It slowly moves down my esophagus ...with burning and pain. It feels like once it gets to my stomach , I can still feel burning but the pain is gone. Sometimes this even happens when I drink. I generally drink about 2 liters of water a day but I was on a trip this weekend and drank mostly sodas. Could this be related? Its so painful that I don t even want to attempt eating. Thanks!

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
by reading into your symptoms I have two possibilities for you. You anyway have developing pharyngitis with or without oesophagitis which are the inflammation of throat and food pipe. The two causes in this case may be an infection or reflux because of all the sodas you had consumed.
The advice to you is:
1. If you develop additional symptoms like fever, blood in sputum and cough, immediately visit an ENT.
2. The treatment of infection is antibiotics and anti inflammatory drugs while relux medications form the treatment of reflux.
3. Try bland non spicy non oily diet for a week or two and stick to your meal timing. Also dont immediately lie down after food and do not wear tight dresses. Avoid caffeine, soda, alcohol for a week or two.
4. Plan for an oesophagoscopy if the symptoms are recurring

hope these help

Good afternoon
You could be having esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus) .
This could be due to reflux of stomach contents which are acidic because you took soda.
Do you have any history of fever, heart burn, cough?
If yes then see your doctor(ENT)for further examination.
If no avoid fatty meals, spicy food, alcohol and drugs such as aspirin.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have any more questions I will be happy to help you.
