Experienced Pain And Discomfort During Intercourse

Hi, my boyfriend and I were having sex today and as he went in i felt a sharp stabbing pain by my uterus on the upper right hand side of my vagina, by my hips. it was so painfull that i screamed and we had to stop intercorse. it is still painfull and seems to be swollen. what happened?

Thanks for writing in.

I assume you had sex before and this is the first time you felt severe pain. It is possible that you had violent sex and the vaginal fornices might have been injured. This is the commonest cause for sudden pain during and after sex. The other possibilities in your case include pelvic muscle spasm, pelvic inflammatory disease, sexually transmitted infection and vaginal infections. You may wait a day or two and if the pain gets worse and is persistent then please consult your doctor for clinical examination and treatment. Avoid sex for a week or ten days.
