Experiencing Abdominal Pain With Small Changes In My Bladder And Bowel Movements

Hi, I am a healthy active 42 year old woman. In the last few months i have been experiencing regular dull aching in the abdomen, with small changes in my bladder and bowel movements that i put down to variations in diet. I had an iud put in 2 years ago and noticed that there is sometimes pain and spotting after intercourse, I am due for a pap smear. The pain is very uncomfortable some nights and causes me to sleep restlessly. Also lower back pain, which i blame on a new mattress. Is there cause for concern, maybe I'm making up excuses for the pain when it could be something more sinister. Thank you Aliyah

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

IUD is a foreign agent and commonly cause discomfort in the uterus. But, low back ache suggests uterine infection/inflammation and needs evaluation to isolate the causative organism.

Pain and spotting after vigorous intercourse is commonly due to the IUD causing abrasions of the uterine wall.

Get yourself examined by your gynecologist for evidence of infection.
Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me and will prescribe the advised drugs in appropriate doses.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.
