Experiencing Bad Headaches. Was On Triphasil Contraceptives And Was Given Trigestrel. Related?

Good day.

I've been experiencing headaches for a few years now. At first I thought it was due to my wisdom teeth, they removed my wisdom teeth about 3 years ago but the HA's continued. I then thought it might be due to the fact that I was a student at the time, which required a lot of concentration, reading and stress of course. I graduated about 2 years ago and the HA's is still there.

There is no nausea or dizziness associated with the HA's, only a throbbing sensation either temporal, frontal or behind my eyes. I usually wake up with the HA or get the HA during the day. Exercise doesn't seem to aggravate the HA's.

I do sleep approximately 8-9 hours. I try to drink a lot of water a day, but sometimes not the required amount. I was on triphasil contraceptives for approximately 7 years, and was given trigestrel for a couple of months now.

Can any of the above mentioned be the cause of my HA's? Should I see a doctor?

Hi and thanks for the query,

I am afraid the headaches you are experiencing might require a more careful insight. Headaches are generally either primary (migraines, tension or cluster) or secondary (infection, abscess, tumor, inflammation etc). A careful clinical evaluation is needed to distinguish these two big classes, because treatment and further investigations are mainly dependent on this differentiation.

I suggest you meet a neurologist for a careful clinical evaluation. A CT scan might be needed at some point in time under circumstances. However, this shall depend on clinical findings and a better precisions of signs and symptoms.

Thanks once again as I wish you the best of health.

Kind regards,

Hi,
As you have been having headache for a long time, 7 years, it is likely the you headache is begnin, that is, headache as a primary disease and not a symptoms. In this regard your headache is there for not linked to the number of hours of sleep. 8-9 hrs is a reasonable and accepted minimum time of sleep. Also the Triphastil and Trigestrel could as well not be the cause especially that the headache started long before you started the pills. Furthermore, primary headache is frequent among females, 23% and common in the population as a whole. However, there are factor precipitating the headache and should be identified in other to best managed the headache. Simple analgesic could improved the headache, however, such headache is usually chronic i.e long lasting. Conversely, the headache could be symptomatic, that is, pointing to and underline illness. This is less likely here. It is a good thing to discuss with your doctor about this who will clarify you more.
Wish you good health
