The symptoms are suggestive of Rhinosporidiosis, an infectious disease caused by a protist. The disease is characterized by presence of granulomatous lesions (bumps like sores) on the mucous membranes of nose, throat, eyes, genitals and rectum.
The symptoms can vary depending on area involved; for instance, if nose is affected symptoms are likely to be similar to that of nasal obstruction, runny nose, bleeding to mention a few. The disease is transmitted via contaminated water source, and is endemic in many tropical countries. A through history, examination and diagnostic tests like biopsy is helpful in concluding a diagnosis. Treatment depends on size of area involved and extent of spread of lesions.
