Experiencing Occasional Uncontrollable Nose Bleeds. Relief With Saline Wash, Petroleum Jelly And Ayr Gel. Can Cauterization Help?

my nose bleeds uncontrolable and it is mostly on one side. i have gone to emergency, after 3 days of this, but nothing was done except a nose clip whch hurt after a while, then for a while, 1 month, it stoped, now starting at odd times. blood also goes down my throat. this makes me sick. reg dr. sugested the saline wash and petrolium jellie on in side of nose, worked for a while. i used ayr gel which was much better, but it came back again. at night to sleep room is cold, so i wear a beany and painters mask., i thought that would do it, but as i write with one hand, i have a bloody nose. any sugestions for help and can you explain cauterization, is it painful? please please advise marguerite 72 yrs old

I have gone through your query regarding recurrent nasal bleeding even after taking conservative medical treatment. You are worried about cauterization and it's after effects.

Here I would like to tell you that in all cases of nose bleeding it is essential to know about the cause of bleeding it may due to-

1- Hypertension.

2- nasal infection & congestion.

3- Trauma.

4- Neoplasm (may be benign or malignant).

In most of the cases the little's area (highly vascular area) of nasal septum is the commonest site of bleeding and after conservative treatment if bleeding persists than cauterization is the ultimate mode of treatment. This is performed under local anesthesia and is a painless procedure and quite effective.

If any of above listed factors are there than that should be taken care of accordingly to avoid future complication and recurrence.
