Extreme Pain, Itching And Burning Below Neck. Prescribe With Panafenforte. Applying Elocon Cream. Suggest

My 20 year old daughter is experiencing extreme pain, itching and burning from just below her neck to the centre of her back. The pain finishes just above her bra.A rash was visible on Sunday night but the doctor she just saw said he couldn't see anything and wanted to prescribe panafenforte. She said she didn't want theat but something to ease the itching and burning. He gave her a script for Elocon cream. She said that she can't go out into the sun and when she gets hot the pain is worse. Do you think she could have shingles?

Shingles is something that comes as differential on the top of the list, it is best to get the rash checked as rash of shingles is very specific & never to be missed.
Your daughter does have few symptoms suggestive of possibility of shingles though without examination it is difficult to confirm.
If it is to be shingles anti viral medications need to be started as soon as possible ideally within 24- 48 hours of rash starting to avoid complications & reduce further spread.
Hope this is helpful

Dermatologist Dr. Geetika Paul's  Response
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare Magic Forum

Your daughter seems to have developed sun burns due to excessive sun exposure...

She can apply Elocon cream over the affected area atleast twice a day inorder to decrease the inflammation..
And take some oral antihistamines like levocetrizine once a day.
She should use a sunscreen (spf>26) everytime before She goes out in the sun in future,..

Regarding a sunscreen, it is important that you should apply adequate amount of sunscreen over all the exposed areas before going out in the sun,,
It should atleast be applied 30 minutes before any kind of sun exposure and it should be reapplied every 3-4 hours in you stay out in the sun..
Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated

Shingles present in a different manner,,,They present with grouped vesicular lesions unilaterally over a particular area of body and are associated with severe pain,,,So this looks unlikely to be shingles

Hope it helps
Wishing your daughter speedy recovery
