Extremely Painful Joints With Muscle Pain, Difficulty Opening A Bottle, Turning In Bed. Little Help From Prednisone. Diagnosis?

We have a 60 yr old male friend who presents with extremely painful joints with such muscle pain associated with the joints in the right arm that he cannot open a bottle of anything. Pain is in shoulder joints and buttocks and is so severe that he cannot turn in bed without help. Onset was sudden after a trip to Orlando. Cannot get a clear cut diagnosis. thought of Lyme Disease....no bulls eye wheal. Md put him on prednisone which helps some. Right arm is affected more than the left.

Hi,
From history it seems that he might be having degenerative changes giving rise to osteoartheritis.
It also concludes that he might be having osteoporosis and osteomalacia.
Give him calcium, vitamin A and D supplements.
If require go for S. calcium, A and D estimation.
Ok and take care.
