Face And Jaw Are Sore. Blood Tests Normal. Biopsy In Artery. Blindness?
Hi Doctor my hubby visited emergency dept at hosp today as his face and jaw were extremely painful to touch he had blood tests wcc reading 13.2 neutrophils 10.4 tomorrow we are visiting a rheumatologist for a biopsy on the artery beside his eye they believe it maybe some type of rheumatoid arthritis, what is this test for as they also mentioned if there was an infection it cld travel to the aback of the eyes and cause blindness thanks barb
Dear Barb, What I presume from your history is your doctor is suspecting a disease called Gaint Cell Arteritis. It affects the medium size arteries & one of them is the artery supplying the nerve to eye (called Optic nerve). If it affects the optic nerve it would cause sudden loss of vision & if untreated immediately would cause blindness.
