Family History Of Thyroid Problems. Taking Synthroid. Correct Dosage?

One Dr. had me on synthroid 137 mg per day. I did not like his bedside manner. Therefore I switched Drs. I went from taking 137 mmg of synthroid to 25 mg. I tried to get a second opinion to see if I was on track. I believe My family Dr. is
way off. Apparently someone is off line with how much syntroid I should be on. What can I do to get on track. Thyroid problems do run in my family. Should I ask my family dr. for a referral to an endocronolist. Right now My skin is peeling like a snake, also very dry. I have tried lotions and oil. I will be 60 next month. Is it possible for my thyroid to change this much in one yr. Also I have no leg hair, no arm hair and very little pubic hair. I know that the thyroid controls every part of the body. And apparently something is going on that is not normal with my body chemistry. I feel that it could by thyroid related. Sincerely Pam H.

Hi Pam! Thank you for your question.

Yes, I would advise that you see an endocrinologist as soon as possible for the correct dosing. You are right in saying that the thyroid controls a lot of our body's functions and a very low thyroid hormone level (even within just a few months) will definitely cause the symptoms you just mentioned.

So, please see an endocrinologist that you feel comfortable with because your thyroid hormone levels may have to be monitored regularly in the next few months to see if you are getting the correct dose.

I hope I answered your questions. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Take care!
