Feeling Symptoms Of Paranoia And Dilusions After Quitting Smoking Poppers. Is This Getting Schizophrenic?

Hi,
My son has recently quit smoking poppers (marijuana mixed with tobacco).
Since he has quit he was having symptoms of paranoia where he thinks people are reading his mind. Now the sypmtoms have demished to dilusions where he feels people are staring at him.
He still socializes with his friends, has good hygiene.
Do you think he may be getting schizophrenic.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for using HCM.
Psychotic symptoms like delusions and hallucinations can occur in a person during acute intoxication or withdrawal from a substance of abuse like marijuana. This is referred to as substance induced psychotic disorder. The symptoms should subside spontaneously within few weeks of stopping marijuana. However , if you observe any behavioral disturbance , delusions or hallucinations even after 1 month of quitting marijuana, consult a psychiatrist for further evaluation.
