Fever After Being Bitten Of A Dog. Emergency? Infection?
my brother was bitten by a pit bull 2 days ago and then yesterday he started running a fever of 101 on an oral digital thermometer... he did not have the fever before the bite. could they be related and should he go back to the ER? he was seen right after the bite at the ER and was given a tetanus shot...could that be the cause of the fever? or should we worry about infection from the bite? thank you but no thank you. im sry i wasted the time of the reader... I thought that this was the FREE help site that I have used in the past. Id rather use the money I would have to pay you to go towards the ER costs... as i said sorry to waste ur time.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Ramakant's Response
Hi,
The bite may be a source of bacterial infection. The contaminated bite wound may also harbour nacteria and cause sustemic infection causing fever.
He should take the oral antibiotics course for 5-7 days period or as prescribed by the doctor.
You should visit the ER or doctor for the prescription antibiotics like oflox, augmentin, cephalexin etc to control the infection. The fever can be controlled by drugs like motrin, advil etc.
