Fever, Chills, Elevated WBC. CXR Revealed Spot Of Pneumonia. Had Ear Infection. What Is Going On?

My two year old neice is running fever and having chills. She was taken earlier in the day to see her MD/NP and the children's clinic. Labs were done showing an elevated WBC. CXR revealed a "possible spot of pneumonia" (we were told it could possibly be an "old pneumonia that was treated or a current pneumonia). She was then given an Antibiotic shot and sent home. A week ago she attended a bday pool party and accidentally fell in the swimming pool, but was quickly retrieved and was ok after. She wasn't allowed to get in the pool because she was getting over an ear infection. Could this " possible pneumonia" be related to her falling in the pool? Isn't there some type of issue related to near drowning type incidences in children?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

Thanks for consulting to H.C.M.

I read your query regarding illness of your neice suffering from fever, chills, elevated WBC, X-Ray chest revealed spot of pneumonia. She is also having ear infection.

Unfotunately accidentally she fell down in a swiming pool, though she is immidiately made out from pool because of her ear infection. But it is possible that during falling in pool she got aspirated some water which is responsible for consolidation in lung and thus elevated WBC.

She is getting propr treatment with antibiotics etc i hope she will be O.K.

I hope your query is answered.

Regards.
