Fever, Cold, Body Ache, Sore Throat, Test Negative, Taking Penicillin 500, Swollen Gums
Hi I went in yesterday to the hospital after having a fever, chills and body aches and sore throat . they did a test and came back negative for strep but still gave me penicillin 500 to take. I feel better but still sore throat with a bit of whitish dots but I have swollen gums and was wondering what is that? the guns were a little swollen before the pencilin....
Your words suggest towards upper respiratory tract infection which may be mixed bacterial or viral.Your test came negative for Strep but there might be other bacteria involved or may be viral. You need to continue the antibiotics atleast to prevent further superinfection by bacteria... CoAmoxiclav 625mg tablet thrice daily for 5 days would be a better option.
Do warm saline gurgling four times daily for 5 days
Take Vit C 500mg tablet once daily for a week. Eat plenty of citrous fruits.
Have plenty of fluids.
Take Paracetamol 500mg tablet twice daily for 3 days and thereafter sos
Take Levocetrizine 5mg tablet twice daily for 5 days
Do a repeat throat swab culture sensitivity testing if possible.
Get a clinical checkup from your doctor and take his advice.
Hope this helps
Update here how you stay.
Take care :)

Fever, Cold, Body Ache, Sore Throat, Test Negative, Taking Penicillin 500, Swollen Gums
Hi welcome to health care magic forum, Fever, cold , body ache , sore throat and swollen gum are signs of viral fever or upper respiratory infection. Some time tests may come negative. If you feel better after a dosage of penicillin than in my opinion you should continue the medication. you can take antiinflammatory drugs and antihistamine as adjuvent drugs along with it to reduce swollen gums and sore throat. regards.
