Hi, My daughter is suffering from high fever, we have been to doctor last evening around 8 hrs back. He said its a throat infection. He prescribed meftal-p( mefenamic acid suspension) and amoxicillin and potassium clavulanate oral suspension. But even after giving meftal-p now the fever is not coming down. Please suggest.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your daughter is having the throat infection which is initially viral in origin and it causes body ache and fever. It is the reaction of the body so do not worry about mild fever, already you have been prescribed paracetamol syrup which can help to reduce pain and fever. If fever is high you can do tepid sponging to bring the temperature down.

Sometimes antibiotics are given to prevent secondary bacterial infections.

Please remember body immunity (defense mechanism) works better with mild temperature and it is not necessary to bring the temperature to 98.4°F (36.4°C).
Please do not worry it takes few days for fever to subside.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhilesh Dubey
