Hi, my son had a fever and a sore throat 2 weeks ago- he was given an antibiotic and his fever is gone but now he has just regained his voice after losing it and he now has much chest congestion and sinus pressure with blood at times- he has had many sore throats and tonsil problems in the last few years. Is this all related to the tonsils or something else?
I am so sorry to hear about what your soon has been experiencing.
Yes, swollen tonsils can actually predispose you to sinus problems. This is because they interfere with the natural drainage of secretions from the nasal cavity , sinuses and surrounding structures. This causes stagnation and favors the multiplication of germs that cause infections. Addressing such problems can be very helpful.
From the longstanding nature and severity of this pain, i would suggest that your son consults an ENT specialist for proper evaluation and treatment. At times, recurrent tonsillitis may require surgical intervention to get symptoms controlled. Please, plan and meet one at your earliest convenience.
I hope this helps and provides enough guidance to you. feel free to ask me many more questions if need be.I wish your son well. Dr. Ditah, MD
