Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 11 yr. old daughter has been having a stomach ache for the past 2 weeks. She has had a sore throat & fever. She tested positiv for strep throat. She took the course of antibiotics. Still had stomach ache. Then got sore throat and fever. Tested negative for strep.Mono test was negative. Diagnosed with viral infection. Sore throat & fever gone but stomach still causing trouble.
Persistent pain in abdomen in spite of well treated strep throat and settled fever needs proper evaluation of the cause.
Hence, I would advise her following: -Consult a Pediatric Surgeon for clinical evaluation and examination. -Ultrasound of abdomen and CT scan of abdomen. -Tests of blood, stool and urine.
All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and gives plan of management.
If there appendicitis or so, then she needs a proper course of an additional antibiotic, Metronidazole and probiotics. If there is appendicitis or so, then surgery may be needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
