Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Fever, Swollen Lymph Nodes On The Throat, CBC Done, Hypochromic, On Clindamycin. Infection?
My 8 yr old son has had on and off fever for the past 5 days. He gets them at night, temperature goes as high as 40.3 celcius. Swollen lymph nodes on the throat . Was asked to do a CBC today and results are within range except WBC is a bit high at 10.3 (range 4.5-10) and it says hypochromic. What does that mean? Does he have an infection? He is on clindamycin but seems to not be responding.
Hi sir/madam,
I am really concerned that your child is suffering from fever.
High grade fever suggest that your son is having infection. Swollen lymph nodes on throat might suggest that he has throat infection. But however examination by a physician is necessary to rule out other causes of fever like malaria, typhoid, urinary infection, other viral infections.
His blood results are not suggestive of any disease and he might need further investigations. Since he is not responding to clindamycin (atleast two days of antibiotics should have been taken for response), he needs to be put on better antibiotics based on investigations and examination by physician.
Don't worry, he will be alright. Just keep in touch with your physician and keep following his advice. Take care.
