Fibroids With Bleeding And Severe Pain. What Questions To Pose To A Specialist And Is It Possible To Avoid Surgery?
Hi I have confirmed through ultrasound that I have a large 10.5cm fibroid which is causing me issues with period pain/loss of blood during period/very full bladder/pain during intercourse/abdominal pain etc. I have an appointment in 2 weeks with a gynecologist to discuss possible solutions to symptons. My GP adivsed today that I have a large uterus but his sizes haven't related to any research I have completed since I got back. He advised the normal size of a uterus is approx 110-130mm and mine is sitting at 640mm. Does this make sense? Although he said the specialist will advise better, he thinks the best solution is vaginal hysterectomy removing the uterus and fibroid, leaving the ovaries in tact. What are your thoughts before I see the specialist?
I also want to know what kind of questions to ask the gynecologist as I would prefer to avoid surgery where possible but the pain and bleeding is getting worse. I'm nearly 40 years old & have two children.
Hi, as you have 2 children already, at this moment you can have hysterectomy, for relief of the symptoms, as you are of the age of 40, the symptoms also could be due to the pre menopausual condition, or endomatriosis. If you don't want to get hysterectomy, you can have fibroidectomy, but preferable is to have hysterectomy. Thank you.
