Finger Injury, Pain, Swelling, Discolouration, Can Move Finger And Is Sensitive. Icing Causes More Pain. Treatment?
I hit my left ring finger on the distal phalange with a hammer. The intense pain faded quickly but the swelling has continued to get worse in the last 8 hours. There is discoloration which is getting darker. The finger has feeling and good range of motion . Icing it causes pain, 8 out of 10. How concerned should I be about the swelling tonite?
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
I assume you had the pain in the left side of your chest and/or abdomen. Correct me if I am mistaken. If the pain is in your chest, it could be due to a muscle sprain or some trauma. I would suggest that you use hot compresses, use diclofenac spray and take Tablet motrin for the pain as and when required.
If the pain is in the abdomen, it can be due to gastritis or some infection. I would suggest you take frequent meals, eat homemade food, take Prevacid OTC once a day 1 hour before meals. If the symptoms persist, you should also see your physician for ruling out other causes like infectious mononucleosis.
I would like to reassure you that the bleeding from the gums and this pain are not related at all.
Hope this helps.
