Flared Up Skin On Legs, Redness And Hot, Dryness In Skin. Applied Lotion. What Is Going On?
My 16 month old son has been having the skin on the back of his legs flare up becoming red and hot. Sometimes it will be up by his thigh and diaper, and occasionally on his arm/shoulder area. I have no idea what it could be. I've tried putting lotion on him thinking it was dry skin, but that didn't change anything. It looks and feels warm like a sunburn but he hasn't been outside in the sun.
Hi Thanks for your query According to your history, looks like your son is having atopic eczema.
Atopic dermatitis is an inflammatory skin disorder affecting the body of mostly young infants and children. The main problem is that of an excessive dry skin which leads to development of this eczematous skin condition.
Typically, atopic dermatitis presents with scaly, flaky, itchy, and red skin. It particularly affects the folds and face although it can spread to rest of the body. Now what yo need to do is proper moisturization of the skin with good moisturizers and application of oil over the body atleast once a day. In addition, you might have to apply a mild topical steroid cream, something like desonide over the affected areas once a day only. Wear cotton clothes
Hope it helps
